A PRIMER ON SAMATHA MEDITATION (2016)

A short overview of the purpose, practice, and obstacles of samatha (single pointed focus on the breath) meditation. This guide is meant to help aspiring mystics take the initial steps on the path to awakening, healing, and quite often, both. Whether this is your first time on a meditation cushion or you have previously experimented with meditation (but aren’t sure if you’re doing it “right”), this general map will quickly help you get your bearings.

A YEAR OF SAMATHA (2018)

Curious what the process of housebreaking the bodymind is really like?  Follow #AYearOfSamatha on Twitter or Facebook

Beginning on Jan 1st, 2018, I made the commitment to do at least 20 minutes of samatha meditation each day.  Rather than portray an embellished misrepresentation of the process as some kind of blissful, effortless, spiritual euphoria, I wanted to show people what's really involved: knee pain, internal resistance, mind wandering, and frustration.  And yes, if you persevere, an unforgettable glimpse of your true self.

Follow A Year of Samatha for a front row seat of my attempts to domesticate my belligerent mind.  My hope is that you see the value and benefits of persevering in a daily meditative practice, and consider integrating samatha into your own path.
